Lost Your Dog Near the State Line?

Updated: Jul 26, 2025

Here are Some Tips!

Four states border Wisconsin (Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota and Michigan) .

If your dog goes missing and you live within a reasonable distance from the border remember that you will have to contact a whole different set of lost/found pet sites, animal shelters, animal control officers etc. It is entirely feasible that your dog has walked across a state line, crossed a bridge or swam a river.

Also remember that the neighboring states may have different stray hold laws than Wisconsin so time is of the essence! Many of the sites will do a courtesy post if asked.

Do your research and legwork and cover all of your bases. As time goes on expand your search further. Reaching a different set of eyes and ears may bring you the sighting you need to bring your dog home!
